Paying It Forward

As many of you know, I'm a huge advocate to giving back to your community.  I truly believe in the words, "Practice Random Acts of Kindness".  I have taught my children since they were little to hold doors open for people; to give your stuff to those who might need it; to help out others without being asked.  Both my kids have had summer "birthday" parties where instead of gifts, they've asked for food for the food bank or items for the local animal shelter. (Both of my kids have Winter birthdays, these parties let us help out agencies that needed our help and do a few parties at a local beach)

Rachel and her friend, Sammy, working on their Gold Award Project. The Serenity Garden at the Maria Kelting Steiner Hospice Home I'm proud that my daughter did three big community service projects to earn the three highest awards in Girl Scouts (Bronze as a Junior, Silver as a Cadette, and Gold as a Senior Girl Scout)  My son has participated in numerous Boy Scout community service projects and is in the planning stages for his own Eagle Community Service Project.

As for me, I volunteer with Boy Scouts, our local food bank, Operation Glass Slipper, and I give a donation to just about every Fundraiser that comes my way.

Personally, I like how volunteering makes me feel.  I like giving back.  I have been blessed.  I have a great home, two wonderful kids, and a husband who loves me despite of myself.

Take a moment today, and ask yourself, "How can I help?"  It could be a simple as giving used Winter Gear to a Coat Drive, donating books to the library for their book sale, or dropping a bag of groceries to your local food bank.  If everyone did just one thing a month, imagine the wonders that would happen around you.  Spread positiveness.  You'll be SUPER glad that you did!

As always, I want to hear from you!  Leave me a comment to what you're doing to make your little corner of the world a better place!
