Diabetes
Midwest Wedding Photography
So, straight up front, I'm diabetic. I've had Diabetes so long that I don't really remember life before Diabetes. I can't even tell you the number of shots and finger pokes I've had. Even now I poke my finger 8-12 times a day to help regulate and normalize my blood sugars. Working out in the AM, is usually 3-4. (Why is that? Well, somedays working out makes my blood sugar drop, others it makes it go through the roof. Since I don't have a CGM - Continuous Glucose Monitor - it the only way for me to know what direction it's going on any given day!)

Because I wanted to be independent as a young child, that meant learning to give my own shots so I could go places, spend the night, go to camp, etc. And for me, that meant most of my shots went into my abs. They tell you to rotate your sites, to use your arms and legs, and butt, but if you know anything about nerve endings, there are less in your ab muscles and thus, it hurts the least there! That's where most of my shots went.

I damaged myself. I have Lipohypertrophy. Lipohypertrophy is an abnormal accumulation of fat underneath the surface of the skin. It’s most commonly seen in people who receive multiple daily injections, such as people with type 1 diabetes. In fact, up to 50 percent of people with type 1 diabetes experience it at some point. My damage is fairly severe. At my last doctor appointment, my doc was pretty clear, that it CAN improve, but in all reality, it will take surgery to get my abs as flat as I would like, and even that might not be a possibility.

And so I workout, and I workout hard. I'm LOVING the rest of my body. My butt is getting rounder, my thighs strong and my delts and arms are becoming defined. And believe it or not, I'm getting a 2-pack!
Thanks for following my journey! Please leave me a little love in the comments!
